Role summary

Reporting to the Aerodynamics Section Leader, the main purpose of this role is to lead individual projects within an aerodynamics development group, ensuring that best use is made of CFD, Wind Tunnel and any other resources available.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Following the Aerodynamic targets and objectives for your project area set out by the Principal Aerodynamicist and Aerodynamics Section Leader, define projects within the defined working area to achieve the targets and objectives
  • Use both CFD and Wind Tunnel resources as made available to maximum benefit to achieve the desired program aims
  • Plan and execute wind tunnel programs as directed by the Aerodynamics Section Leader ensuring an organised approach and efficient testing
  • Work closely with the Aero Operations Manager as required to plan the wind tunnel program to ensure that the required parts are available for model design and then pre-fit at the required time
  • Ensure that parts are pre-fitted to the correct standard prior to the wind tunnel session
  • Ensure that parts are fitted to the correct standard during the wind tunnel session
  • Report as required on Aero development programs and integrate the conclusions into the following programs
  • Provide leadership, support and training to junior members of the group as directed by the Aerodynamics Section Leader

Target profile

  • BEng degree in Aerodynamic Engineering or equivalent
  • Broad based education in mathematics and physics
  • 2+ years’ experience of race car development in CFD and Wind Tunnel, ideally within F1
  • Proven experience of problem solving, working accurately and methodically, often under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Clear understanding of latest F1 technical regulations and experience of designing cars to those regulations
  • Proven experience of report writing
  • Able to effectively lead individual development programs within a defined area of the car following targets and objectives set out by the Aerodynamics Project Leader and Principal Aerodynamicist
  • Ability to manage development programs within a single development group
  • Proficient at using Microsoft Office (Windows, Excel & PowerPoint)
  • Proficient at scheming designs in CAD – NX is desirable, however candidates with relevant experience of other CAD packages will be considered
