Role Summary

Reporting to the Lead Aero Surfacer, and liaising with our CFD Engineers, Aerodynamicists and Model Designers, successful candidates will create parametric surface models for use throughout the Design Department, predominantly to support our CFD program. Additionally the successful candidate will be expected to mentor less experienced surfacers and provide support to the Lead Aero Surfacer in the development of our surfacing process and capabilities.


Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Creation of surface models

    • Creation of robust, parametric models for CFD and Aerodynamicists as required

    • Work closely with the above to ensure exact requirements are achieved

    • Manage workload to ensure deadlines are met

    • Maintain a thorough knowledge of article 3 of the FIA regulations

  • Create and maintain a CAD master surface model

    • Update and maintain a full size master model of the car wetted surfaces

    • Prepare surface information for full size release

  • Provide surfacing support across the Aero Group

    • To set, promote and maintain best practices across the Department

    • Provide troubleshooting support

    • To be proactive in offering advice and guidance to both the Group and individuals

  • Mentor Junior Aero Surfacers

    • Aligned to the targets set by the Lead Aero Surfacer, mentor Junior Aero Surfacers to ensure the overall capabilities within the department continue to improve


Target Profile

  • Experienced in surface definition, ideally using NX7.5 or above within an F1 or motorsport environment

  • 5+ years experience of surface creation ideally in an F1 environment

  • Proven track record of creating robust parametric models

  • A sound understanding of article 3 of the FIA F1 regulations

  • Excellent attention to detail and drive to achieve the right result for the team

  • Succinctly and consistently communicates/translates complex technical information verbally and in writing

  • Ability to lead and mentor more junior members of the team

  • Ability to support the Lead Aero Surfacer in developing the process and capability within the surfacing group

  • BEng (Aerospace, Mechanical, Motorsport or other relevant engineering discipline) – preferred but not essential
